Malibu Creek Tapestry
This tapestry is inspired by the dried out Malibu Creek. Hikers can walk across or along the dry path to a swimming quarry or trek deeper into the mountains. The handspun banana yarn reminds me of dry crunchy grass along the trail. The yarn was hand dyed to-order in specific color-ways. Flecks of purple, white and sage come through the warp while knots and organic passages happen in the weft due to the nature of handspun banana fiber.
The structure combines a burlap-esque fiber with a soft refined wool fiber to create a fascinating weave- almost like a stretchy squishy burlap.
Completed in November 2021
It's made with wool in the warp (vertical threads) and banana fiber in the weft (horizontal threads) and hung on a pure walnut wood dowel.
As hung in the picture, it measures approximately 19.125 inches wide by 48" inches long.
*includes hanging thread, dowel and fringe
